Office Assistant - Administration

General Description:
The Office Assistant helps with a range of tasks involving photocopying, collating materials, bulk or special mailings, preparation of workshop materials, data processing, database maintenance and phoning. This flexible position is designed to provide help in a variety of ways to all departments facilitating the general functions of the agency.

Specific Duties:

  • Assist in copying and collating materials necessary for meetings, workshops, proposals, etc.
  • Participate in various stages of bulk or special mailings (addressing, stuffing, sealing, stamping and sorting).
  • Help with data entry or word processing when needed.
  • Assist in other special projects, such as sorting clippings, restructuring of filing systems, or other such tasks that may arise.

Qualifications:

  • Previous office experience
  • Computer or typing skills desirable.

Clinic Assistant - All Clinics

General Description:
Duties include greeting incoming patients, making them feel comfortable in the clinic, initiating clinic process, and clerical tasks associated with general office procedures. This position offers the first opportunity to establish a friendly rapport with a patient during the visit. The functions performed by the Clinic Assistant are essential to the patient flow and to the smooth and efficient operation of the total clinic system.

Specific Duties:

  • Answering phones, scheduling appointments, providing basic information.
  • Greeting patients entering the clinic.
  • Begin appropriate clinic process for patient.
  • Maintain patient records and file maintenance
  • File lab results and patient charts
  • Perform other record-keeping and miscellaneous office tasks.
  • Patient education and community referrals.

Qualifications:

Laboratory Technician Assistant - All Clinics

General Description:
Duties include performing routine lab tests for clinic patients and other laboratory functions relevant to clinic site services and protocols.

Specific Duties:

  • Opens up and stocks lab at beginning of clinic.
  • Performs routine lab work for patients; urinalysis, hemocue, blood pressure, height, weight.
  • Routine urine pregnancy tests.
  • Keep accurate records of all lab procedures performed.
  • Maintains clean laboratory area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and appropriate.
  • Carries out all lab functions in accordance with OSHA standards.

Qualifications:

  • Previous laboratory experience desirable.

Medical Clinic Assistant - All Clinics

General Description:
The Medical Assistant performs tasks prior to the exam and conducts a patient interview to determine patient needs. Other duties may include lab work and assisting a clinician during the exam.

Specific Duties:

  • Review all patient forms.
  • Conduct interview with patient regarding her medical history and specific needs during the present visit.
  • Bring patient into exam room and provide information on what to expect and what to do during the exam process.
  • May perform routine lab procedures prior to exam.
  • May provide direct assistance to clinician during the exam or offer emotional support to patient.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and appropriate.

Clinic Nurse - All Clinics

General Description:
Duties include general clinic tasks and may involve the dispensing of prescription medications and contraceptives to patients. A thorough review of patient histories is completes and detailed instructions are given to patients in a one-on-one setting.

Specific Duties:

  • Interpret and monitor patient's blood pressure/weight and dispense contraceptive supplies.
  • Inform and educate patients regarding contraceptives and reproductive health concerns; provide instruction to patients regarding contraceptive use.
  • Dispense/administer treatment medications.
  • Interview and screen patients; prepare patients for examinations.
  • Accurately chart all pertinent data.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Must have current RN or LPN license.
  • Ability to communicate well with women from a variety of backgrounds and lifestyles.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of all contraceptives and risks associated with prescription methods.
  • Know and understand PPNWO Standard of Medical Practice.

Nurse Practitioner - All Clinics

General Description:
Under general Supervision of the Clinic Manager, the Nurse Practitioner provides medical services to patients with physician supervision. Performs related work as directed.

Specific Duties:

  • Perform routine gynecological examinations, physical examinations, physical assessment, pregnancy diagnosis, and necessary lab work.
  • Assess patient's health status and modify/continue patient on birth control method accordingly.
  • Inform and educate patients regarding contraceptives and reproductive health concerns.
  • Refer patients to physician for abnormal medical findings and ensure patient follow-up.
  • Assist physician as necessary.
  • Provide medical supervision as directed.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of approved Family Planning Nurse Practitioner course
  • Current Ohio RN License.
  • Demonstrated medical judgement.
  • Ability to maintain rapport with clinic patients.
  • Able to observe patient confidentiality.

Advocate Volunteer

General Description:
To connect trained volunteers to Planned Parenthood of Northwest Ohio's greater community and increase volunteer's knowledge.

Specific Duties:

  • Attend initial training sessions.
  • Attend meetings following initial training as needed.
  • Attend retreat.
  • Talk to and educate community members informally.
  • Make and record 3 contacts per month for 10 months.
  • Participate in feedback sessions.

Special Project Coordinator - All Clinics

General Description:
Tasks related to this position may include such things as research, conducting interviews, writing reports, developing designs for improvements, expanding agency systems, building and/or equipment improvements, updating materials or educational programs, assisting in community action or special administrative support projects. Project selection is based on parameters of agency needs, volunteer skills and interest, and a workable time frame.

Specific Duties:

  • Work closely with supervisor regarding project design and implementation.
  • Provide progress report regularly, as agreed upon.
  • Communicate project goals clearly to all individuals concerned.
  • See project through to completion

Health Fair Volunteer

General Description:
Educate public regarding the organization and the services we offer at health fairs. Arrangements made by the Resource Center Coordinator.

Specific Duties:

  • May include transporting exhibit to/from Resource Center
  • Responsible for exhibit set-up and break down
  • Distribute PPNWO materials and answer questions
  • May include recruiting additional exhibit volunteers
  • Evaluate health fairs
  • Track interest in the Planned Parenthood exhibit

Qualifications:

  • Able to represent Planned Parenthood in a professional manner

Community Education Co-Facilitator

General Description:The Community Education Co-Facilitator works with Planned Parenthood Education staff members to facilitate Retreats, Contraceptive Basics workshops and Sexually Transmitted Infection Basics workshops.

Specific Duties:

  • Independent research to prepare for presentations
  • Attend required preparatory workshops
  • Co-facilitate two or three Retreats during a calendar year
  • Co-facilitate workshops for volunteers and/or staff during a calendar year on
  • Contraception and/or Sexually Transmitted Infections

Qualifications:

HIV Volunteer Advisor

General Description:
The HIV Volunteer Advisor provides pre- and post-test counseling to persons who walk-in to the anonymous testing site on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Specific Duties:

  • Provide pre- and post-test HIV Counseling on the facts of HIV and safer sex practices
  • Identify risk behaviors; identify and discuss behavior modification; openly discuss psychosocial aspects of sexual activity
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and information regarding HIV
  • Maintain strict client confidentiality
  • Accurately discuss transmission and prevention of HIV

Qualifications:

  • Complete the American Red Cross Facts and Faces course, or the equivalent, which provides basic education on HIV (can be excluded with permission of training coordinators)
  • Must complete the HIV Advisor Training (4 four hour sessions done jointly with MCO)
  • Must complete Planned Parenthood of NW Ohio Advisor pre and post-test orientation and evaluation.
  • A basic knowledge of Sexually Transmitted Infections

Baby Think It Over® Team Member Volunteer

General Description:
The Baby Think It Over® Team Member Volunteer would report to the Director of Education. This position is for approximately 6 hours per week, 3 hours on Friday and 3 hours on the following Monday.

Specific Duties:

  • Assist in the facilitation of teen pregnancy prevention program
  • Public appearances/speaking for schools, community groups or social service agencies
  • Prepare the dolls and materials and assist on-site with presentation of program according to curriculum
  • Maintain knowledge of teen pregnancy trends, birth control methods and current Planned Parenthood issues
  • Organization of all materials needed for presentation

Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse student populations (usually 6th to 12th grade)

General Description:
The Appointments/Records Volunteer reports to the Site Manager. The hours are to be determined, usually 2-4 hours mornings or afternoons.

  • Perform duties at patient reception/record area
  • Receive patient phone calls and schedule appointments
  • Greet patient in a welcoming manner
  • Maintain patient charts; prepare new charts; pull and file charts

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma
  • Medical receptionist experience helpful

Patient Relations Volunteer

General Description:
The Patient Relations Volunteer will enhance the agency image and increase patient retention by providing customer relation services. This position reports to the Site Manager.

Specific Duties:

  • Greet and interview patients regarding provider services
  • Confirm clinic appointments
  • Conduct periodic patient surveys

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma
  • Degree or experience in counseling helpful

MSM HIV Risk Reduction Peer Opinion Leader (POL)

General Description:
Peer Opinion Leaders are key people who are recognized as influential and charismatic members of a community or communities. These individuals are seen as models whose opinions and behaviors are likely to influence the opinions and behaviors of a target population. An opinion leader is a member of the community who is particularly popular or respected by other members of the community. An opinion leader may be viewed as representing his/her community in the entertainment field, sports, government/politics, academia, business, popular culture, community work, etc (from Iowa HIV Prevention Plan, 2001).

Specific Duties:

  • Assist the Risk Reduction Specialist (RRS) in conducting Individual Level, Group Level, Outreach, Community Level, and Health Communications/Public Information interventions related to HIV Prevention in known MSM identified establishments.
  • Attend Four Session comprehensive HIV Education training outlining the MSM POL HIV Risk Reduction Project by J. Kelly, Ph.D., as well as any update training related to HIV Prevention.
  • Attend group level workshop interaction session once a month with the rest of the trained POL to discuss strategies, successes, barriers, and updates.
  • Keep an accurate record of all contacts, what was talked about, how many times has the contact been seen, and if there was a demonstration of skill building. All information will be reported on CDC aggregate or appropriate charts and will be returned to the Risk Reduction Specialist for the quarterly report to the Ohio Department of Health.
  • Maintain an open line of communication with the RRS involving meeting times, reporting of information, and conflicts of schedule.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a self-identified gay, bisexual, or other Man who reports sexual contact with men (MSM).
  • Good communication and written skills, especially when dealing with other MSM.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of HIV Disease process, Transmission, Treatment, Statistics, and linkages to other services in community related to HIV Prevention and Care.
  • Must be respected within the MSM community or popular among his primary group of social interaction.
  • Must be able to observe and uphold patient confidentiality.
  • Must be able to maintain professional, ethical, behavior as representatives of PPNWO when conducting HIV Education activities in MSM community.

MSM HIV Risk Reduction Outreach Worker

General Description:
Outreach is HIV/AIDS educational interventions generally conducted by peer or paraprofessional educators face-to-face with high-risk individuals in the clients' neighborhoods or other areas where clients typically congregate. Outreach programs seek to change individual behavior by providing motivation, knowledge, risk reduction materials, and referrals to services that support behavior change. Such programs access at-risk individuals on the street, or in malls, parks, bars, or other community settings. Outreach is directed towards a clearly defined target population of individuals at high risk for getting or spreading HIV. Such populations are further characterized by gender, age, race, ethnicity, risk behavior, physical or mental disability, and/or geographic locations. Outreach usually includes distribution of condoms, bleach, sexual responsibility kits, and educational materials. Peer opinion leader models are included in this category.

Specific Duties:

  • Assist the Risk Reduction Specialist (RRS) in conducting Outreach level interventions related to HIV Prevention in known MSM identified establishments including condom drop off, bar raids, bathhouse outreach, etc.
  • Attend Four Session comprehensive HIV Education training outlining the MSM POL HIV Risk Reduction Project by J. Kelly, Ph.D., as well as any update training related to HIV Prevention.
  • Keep and maintain accurate records of all contacts and materials that were delivered on the forms provided. Return these forms to the Risk Reduction Specialist for the quarterly project report to Ohio Department of Health. All information will be reported on CDC aggregate or appropriate charts.
  • Maintain an open line of communication with the RRS involving meeting times, reporting of information, and conflicts of schedule.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a self-identified gay, bisexual, or other Man who reports sexual contact with men (MSM).
  • Must have completed either the Four Session POL HIV Prevention Training and/or Basic and Comprehensive HIV Training at David's House
    Compassion, Inc. Regular attendance at updates is expected.

Finance Department Assistant

General Description:
The Finance Department Volunteer reports to the Finance department. The hours are to be determined, usually 2-4 hours mornings or afternoons.

Specific Duties:

  • Alphabetical filing of claims.
  • Checking off paid claims against Insurance payment.
  • Separating paid claims to be filed after marking them paid.
  • Combine alphabetic claims with claims of same insurance companies in file cabinet.
  • Assemble and staple cash receipt batches once a month.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently.
    Possess appropriate skills for the project.

Volunteer Medical Interviewer/RN/LPN

General Description:
In collaboration with the Nurse Clinicians/Physicians, facilitates direct patient care. Works with other members of the site team to provide quality services in a patient-centered environment.

  • Performs and explains laboratory procedures to patients as indicated. Informs clinician of abnormal findings. Screens patient for nutritional risk factors and refers as indicated.
  • Prepares client and assembles supplies for examination by clinician. Assists clinician during exam when indicated.
  • Works with manager and other members for the site team to facilitate clinic flow and triage.
  • Acts as Medical Interviewer, reviews chart and records purpose of visit.
  • Administers medication and treatments as per order of clinician.
  • Performs patient follow up for all abnormal test results per PPNWO protocol.
  • Maintains proficiency in all duties related to phone intake, client appointments, and maintenance of medical records and assistance to physicians during surgical procedures

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma plus one or two years relevant practical experience
  • Current LPN or RN license in the State of Ohio is preferred
  • Current CPR certification
  • Commitment to customer services and satisfaction.
  • Commitment to team orientation and willingness to participate in constant and ongoing feedback with colleagues.
  • Flexibility, initiative, creative thinking, and a willingness to learn required.
