"When I first started coming to Planned Parenthood it was so I didn't have to tell my parents. After I started college I kept coming because it was where I could afford. As a result I have remained child and disease free. I have completed college and will someday have a healthy family. Until then, I'm safe."

Q: What is the difference between PPFA, PPAO, and PPNWO?

A: Many people have difficulty understanding the difference between Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc. (PPFA), Planned Parenthood Affiliates of Ohio, Inc. (PPAO), and Planned Parenthood of Northwest Ohio, Inc. (PPNWO).

As a local affiliate, PPNWO provides direct clinical reproductive health services to men and women, education on sexual health issues to our patients and the general community, and advocates insuring access to reproductive health care for anyone who requests them.

PPAO is the state organization, based in Columbus, whose membership consists of volunteers from all the affiliates in Ohio. This group is the state wide advocacy arm for the ten Ohio affiliates. This group does not provide clinical services.

PPFA, in its role as the national organization, is the accrediting body for the affiliates. In order to use the Planned Parenthood name and logo, each affiliate must adhere to standards defined by PPFA. These standards encompass everything including medical practices, administration, finance, and board activities. PPFA also provides assistance to affiliates as requested, and handles advocacy at the national level.
